Q
"How do I add hotspot links to my disjoint rollovers without them being active on all frames? How do I add links to my disjoint rollovers and prevent the rollovers from restoring to their original state before I can click on the links? Can I do show/hide layers in Fireworks?"--Legions

It is impossible to use hotspots for links on disjoint rollovers without them being active across all frames. The hotspots you attach the links to can be as small as your cursor to be effective, however. If they are strategically placed, and the viewer is directed to them by a strong visual cue, I think you can get away with it.

If you like, you can download a ZIP file of the graphics we've used for this exercise. Open the file in Fireworks and follow along.

The frames:

frame 1Frame 1 contains the first state of our buttons, plus a place holder image for the disjoint rollover slices.

I've put the buttons close to the disjoint rollover area in this example. They may be as far apart as opposite ends of the canvas, with a large area between that will be exported as text.

frame 2 Frame 2 contains the second state of the buttons, the second state of the disjoint rollover, plus an arrow to which we'll add a hotspot.

frame 3Frame 3 contains the third state of the disjoint rollover, plus an arrow to which we'll attach a hotspot.

We'll add a behaviors to the hotspots over the arrows on both frames to restore the image on Frame 1 onMouseOut.

Adding hotspots and slices:

The arrows used on these images as navigation cues are Ding fonts. They have been converted to paths to reduce the size of their bounding boxes.

Select the arrow on frame two and choose Insert Hotspot from the Insert menu. Do the same with the arrow on frame three.

Return to frame one. Select each of the trigger buttons and insert hotspots.

Draw slices over each of the buttons. Draw one large slice over the disjoint rollover area.
